Dr. Ellen Hiers is originally from Savannah, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hiers worked as a registered technician in a small animal clinic for 5 years before attending veterinary school. She did not know she wanted to practice feline-only medicine until her clinical year in which she did an externship at a cat-only practice and saw the difference it made to the level of care provided. She loves seeing how much better cats do when handled properly. She was president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) while at UGA and is Fear-Free certified. She also received the AAFP's prestigious "Outstanding Senior Award"! Dr. Hiers has a special interest in internal medicine and senior and neonatal care. While working as a tech and over her summer breaks in school she fostered over 40 kittens with various medical needs.
Dr. Hiers grew up with a menagerie of animals including horses, pigs, goats, chickens, dogs, and of course, lots of cats. She has 6 ex-community cats and 3 bottle babies of her own, and one black pitbull, aptly named Binx. In her spare time she enjoys reading, riding horses, and spending time with family.
